There are two main categories of oils: carrier oils and essential oils. Carrier oils are oils like Jojoba, Castor and Olive, that essential oils (like Myrrh, Lavender and Sandalwood) are often diluted in to allow for safe topical application. They are called carrier oils because they carry/deliver the essential oils and their nutrients into the deeper layers of the skin and hair, and is often also referred to as the 'base' oil.

Essential oils are concentrated extracts of plants or seeds and can be thought of as the 'essence' of their raw materials. Since essential oils are so concentrated, they are often not safe to apply directly to skin without diluting first.

The following are carrier oils that Lola's Philosophy uses in some of our products. They are compiled here for easy access to a quick description of their benefits and some tips on how best to use them or what skin or hair type they are most suitable for. Some people may prefer to buy a particular oil to for a specific purpose, and for that reason, we have made some of these oils available for purchase.
